Hope Haven at St. John Bosco PACE Center Extends Its Operating Hours
Hope Haven at St. John Bosco PACE Center is proud to announce that starting April 2, 2018, the center’s hours of operation will be extended to include Monday through Friday from 8am – 5pm. Under the direction of the Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans Board of Directors, Sr. Marjorie Hebert, M.S.C. President and CEO Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans, and Antonio Dias, Executive Director of PACE, the center will offer PACE participants additional access to care on the Westbank.
Hope Haven at St. John Bosco PACE Center is one of two PACE sites in the country (both in Greater New Orleans) to inhabit a retired and completely renovated church. Hope Haven was established in 1925 by Monsignor Peter Wynhoven to shelter and educate orphans and other children in need. St. John Bosco Chapel, the Spanish Baroque-style former church reminiscent of the decorative Churrigueresque style found in cathedrals throughout the New World, was for years used as a chapel for the community.
In 2014, the building received a $1.6 million restoration and began operating as an adult day health care program for the elderly under the direction of PACE Greater New Orleans, an affiliate program of Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans. The program also operates the PACE Greater New Orleans Shirley Landry Benson Center at St. Cecilia located on the Eastbank at 4201 N. Rampart St. and celebrates over 10 years of service to the elderly community.
PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) provides a comprehensive package of health services to keep elderly individuals living in the community. Services are customized and holistic to the particular needs of each participant and are coordinated by an interdisciplinary team of professionals. The extended hours will allow Westbank PACE participants who are age 55 or older and their caregivers a more convenient and viable option for services that include: adult day health care, transportation, medications, nursing care, rehabilitation and restorative therapies, medical care, pastoral care, social services, activities and recreation, caregiver support, hospitalization and nursing home care when needed and other specialty services tailored for their needs.
